Well this page is about me (Diana Jemson) so you can appreciate my journey through the world of aviation.

The picture is of me as the proud new owner of Jabiru 3483 in July 2009. It was flown from its home in Warnervale to Temora (YTEM) by Martyn...  We met Jill Bailey, who was the CFI at Temora Flight Training and a delight to chat with.

My first aviation article was published in the Recreational Aviation Australia magazine - June 2009 edition and received very positive feedback. My second article was published in the August 2010 edition. My friend Nicky also had an article published in the Dec 2010 edition - Ladies Day which was such a great success, we did it again in Dec.

My flying journey began in 2006 at Jandakot Airfield in Western Australia... I was there for work and found some spare time to start learning. I did about 10 hours and returned to Adelaide, South Australia. It took a little time before I was flying again and when I did, it was in Recreational Aviation and at Murray Bridge (YMBD). Since then, I have had lots of fun. I achieved my Pilot Certificate in 3 months and my Navigation (Cross-Country Endorsement) 6 weeks later and took my first long trip (2.5hrs) to Weekeroo, north of Murray Bridge a few days after that.

The rest is now history... I have since flown to Temora (via Hay) to collect my plane (July 2009), to Warrnambool (August 2009) and Deniliquin NSW (May 2010) to collect aircraft for fellow pilots.  I've flown to Lake Eyre (2009 & 2011) and surrounding areas (including Weekeroo, William Creek, Marree, Muloorina Station), Arkaroola (several times including Lake Frome and a flight in the Auster over Sillers Lookout, The Armchair, the Gorge and the village, and again for Christmas 2009), Kangaroo Island 3 times, the Grampians 3 times and Kingston so many times I have given up counting, especially since it is only about an hour flight along the coastline from Goolwa.

In 2010 I became an RA-Aus Senior Instructor and racked up over 250 instructing hours between Feb and Dec of that year. It is exciting to be able to pass the knowledge on to others who are passionate about this activity. I think the biggest joy is sending a student on their first solo... the sense of satisfaction (from both sides) and the reward of the biggest, broadest grin when they get out of the aircraft when they taxi back after their first solo flight.

Since beginning to fly, my whole world has expanded. I have met so many wonderful fellow aviators who love to share their life experiences and flying tales. The world of recreational flying is so much fun, with fewer limitations than general aviation (GA)... so give it a go... come and join us.  Now I am an Instructor I get to take my students to many new places they haven't been yet.

In 2010 the focus was on delivering ground theory and in-flight training for the RA-Aus Cross-Country endorsement (Navigation). The sessions were well received and the students love the classroom based learning and interaction and being able to share the experience with fellow pilots and students. In 2011 I am continuing development on Radio, Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) and Air Legislation courses - Let me know if there is something else you may be interested in. I am also offering personal One-on-One theory tuition as well, either online or in person. I am pleased to report excellent results from those purchasing the Pre-Solo Study Guide.

In Feb 2011 I obtained the CAGIT (Come And Get It Trophy) as listed on the RA-Aus website. My CAGIT article was published in the March 2011 issue of the Recreational Aviation Australia Magazine and reproduced on the SAC website in their Newsletter. Of course... nothing lasts for long... and it has since gone to a new owner.

Read about our trips to Lake Eyre, Arkaroola, Kangaroo Island, Kingston SE and The Grampians.  Also check out the Gallery page for pictures and the Travel To page for venue details of places to travel to and stay.

I organised a Girls Day Out in Murray Bridge (Sep 2010) and my friend Nicky from WA kindly documented the day and events for me as well as her spin in the Pitts Special. Since then (Dec 2010), we've done another one with about 10 ladies and what a ball they had.

And here's an article about me on TV... thanks to my friend Gudrun.
